Endoscopic Septoplasty Izmir

It is the name given to the conditions caused by the septal deviation, or in other words, the obstructions of bone and cartilage in the nose. Surgical operation is absolutely necessary to solve such problems. Treatment methods used in the elimination of this pathology, which is common in rhinology, have been applied successfully for many years.

The whole of the bone and cartilage structures located in the midline of the nose and functioning as a wall between the two nostrils is called the nasal septum. In cases where the nasal septum is not positioned correctly and is curved, the person’s complaints from breathing and various problems occur accordingly. Problems with breathing through the nose affect people’s lives negatively and greatly reduce their quality of life.

Septal deviation, which occurs due to previous physical traumas most of the time, can occur in the womb, sometimes due to genetic reasons and structurally. When the swelling of the soft tissues in the nose, called concha, is included in the septal deviation, that is, hypertrophy of the concha, it can make it more difficult for the person to breathe through the nose. The septal deviation may also cause complaints such as chronic nasal congestion, inability to breathe through the nose, occasional nosebleedings, repetitive sinus infections (sinusitis), post-nasal drip and snoring, and may play a facilitating role in the progression of systemic disorders such as heart, blood pressure, etc.

In cases where the nasal septum is in a curved position for various reasons and septal deviation is occurred, surgical operations in which bone and cartilage tissues are arranged are called “Endoscopic Septoplasty” (septal deviation surgery). During this operation, the curved bone tissues that prevent breathing in the nose are removed and the existing cartilage structures are rearranged and positioned accordingly. Septoplasty surgery can be performed either openly or closed, that is, endoscopically. This surgery was performed only with open surgery in previous years. However, there was a risk of further damage to the tissues inside the nose. Today, this risk has been minimized in the surgery performed with the endoscopic method.
